Notes	"A new octal console for its CDC 8090 computer is the latest addition to the Computer Center of the Colorado School of Mines. Here Director of Research Services William H. Wyatt, left, gets a briefing on the unit from Howard Houts of Control Data Corporation. The new console permits the computer to flash a variety of 23 operational warnings with indicators which light up to announce "tape supply low" "programming errors" etc. A much larger vocabulary can be conveyed through numercial codes on the windows below. For example, 7654 may mean "ready to transmit data to teleprinter" or "ready to accept data from card tabulator." The octal number codes are much more quickly interpreted by the computer's human colleagues than the binary codes of the earlier console.
