William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody stops on his horse in the right midground in a dirt arena during a rehearsal for Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Wearing a dark hat and a dark, striped suit, Cody talks with Sioux Chief Iron Tail, who stands in the center midground in front of a large group of Native Americans. Iron Tail holds a blanket around his shoulders and wears his hair in braids that are pinned up to form long loops. Several of the Native American men behind him wear feathers on their heads and also hold blankets around their shoulders. A few of them wear breastplates, possibly made from bone. Several Native American women seated on the ground behind Iron Tail wear long necklaces, possibly made from dentalium sheels. Two large buildings are in the background.
