View of a group of schoolchildren outside a brick building in Georgetown, Colorado. The children are organized in three lines, two standing and the first row sitting. A young woman, probably the teacher, is on the far left of the back row. The little girls wear ruffled dresses which are white, striped, dotted or checked. Some of the boys wear jackets, and many wear large-collared shirts with soft bows at the neck. The first row is all boys, seated on the rocky dirt so that the soles of their shoes, many cracked and with holes, are visible. The building behind, probably the Catholic schoolhouse, has three double-hung windows and a short stairway to the entrance on the right.
