Title	The Gilpin Hotel, exterior
Summary	Exterior view of The Gilpin Hotel, Black Hawk, Colorado. The building is a square, single detached structure with three stories and a flat roof. The walls are brick with a common bond type of brickwork on the facade. There are seven bays on the first floor, and five each on the second and third floors. A balcony extends out from the second floor and is supported by pilasters with ornate wood design atop. There is a railing with 4 x 4 support posts and thirteen carved dowels in between each. The second and third floor window openings have segmental arches which are marked by a light colored keystone in the middle of each. Continuous brickwork defines the arch and connects subsequent arches along the facade of the building. A door marks the access to the balcony on the second floor. In large letters above the third floor windows, "The Gilpin Hotel", is visible. The first floor is defined by similar opening shapes, but has only four windows, and three doors. Over the main door, "The Gilpin Hotel, J. Klein, Prop.", is visible. All windows are double hung with a single pane. Each slipsill is light in color, which offsets it from the dark surrounding brick. The visible doors are double leaf, four panel doors. Eleven adults and seven children are in front of the hotel; Main St. is in the near foreground.
