Exterior view of schoolhouse and Presbyterian church in Black Hawk, Colorado. The two-story square school has a medium center gable roof shape, horizontal clapboard siding, and pilaster corner boards. The entry way is a center door at the main facade with a detailed shelf surround head and moulded surround trim sides. A bell tower is in the middle of the roof (reportedly the first church bell west of the Mississippi). There is a flagpole out in front of the building. The building, mounted on the side of Bates Hill, required the building of the large rock wall with rail and stairs for a level surface to build on. A flagpole is in front of the school.
