Columbine flowers bloom on a hill near Eldora (originally called Eldorado) in Boulder County, Colorado. The Columbine was named the state flower of Colorado on April 17, 1891 when school students from across the state voted for it as part of the state's Arbor Day festivities. Close to 15,000 of the more than 22,000 students who voted favored the Columbine.
