Pithouse C of Step House, a cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde National Park, is under excavation. The round pithouse has slabs of sandstone around its edges and several pieces of wood protrude from the dirt ground. Another smaller ring is sunken into the ground of the pithouse. A pile of rocks on the far side forms a wall topped by a piece of wood lying on its side. A shovel lies on the ground above the pithouse. A group of men continues to excavate another area in the background.
