A large wooden cross stands in front of the remains of the Pecos Pueblo Mission on top of a small hill in the valley of the Pecos River in New Mexico. The cross is supported by a pile of rocks at its base, from which a large cactus also protrudes. A man with a large moustache and dressed in work clothes stands next to another larger cluster of cacti in front of the remaining walls of the mission. Commissioned by the Andover Academy, Jesse Nusbaum fortified the remaining ; walls with concrete slabs in 1915. A pile of concrete slab is in the right background, and more workers stand in the left background.
