View of some of the log cabins and ruins of American City, Gilpin County, northwest of Black Hawk, Colorado, shows two rustic side gable log cabins on the edge of a treelined slope. The E.M. Stedman house with steep hipped roofs and front deck shows lower on the slope. The collapsed Louisiana Mascot Mine operation with a tailing dump surrounded by evergreens is in distance. Town flourished in the late 1890s and early 1900s with several mine and milling companies.
