Summary	Earl L. Budd, uniformed guard at the State Penitentiary in Canon City, Colorado, has his hand on the stone below a hole. An embroidered patch on his arm reads: "Colorado State Prison."

Notes	Formerly F43508.; Title typed on back of photoprint; also typed on back: "Hole use for brief escape. Earl L. Budd, an officer at the Penitentiary in Canon City, Colo. points to the hole in the soap plant wall through which William Billy Shearer 3 escaped late Friday afternoon. A second prisoner, Theodore C. Ruark, 28, Jefferson County also tried to go through the hole but was too fat. He was found hiding in the soap plant Shere was also recaptured along Sky Line Drive northwest of the prison, a few hours after escape. January 18, 1965 [sic]."; R7100178862
