Black and white convicts work atop ruins of a brick cell block destroyed during the 1929 uprising at the State Penitentiary in Canon City, Colorado. They hold iron bars and sledge hammers. On the wall below them, porcelain toilet bowls remain intact. With his doberman pincer dogs Bo and Bess, Warden Best and another man stand on a foundation near loose bricks.
