In the prison yard in Canon City, Colorado, garden, lawn, and potted plants flank the City Ditch which enters through a grated arch in the wall. Footbridges cross the canal leading to the Administration Building. Other features include a two-story, gable roofed stone structure with a belfry and barred, arched windows. Carved stone steps have urns on their walls, and are flanked by flowerbeds and white picket fence. A faceted guard tower and a one-story building with an incised pediment reading: "Hose No 2" edge the plaza; a pith helmet tops its entry. Steps from the plaza cut through a wall to a lower level; power poles and an electric lamp dot the area.
