Stone buildings at the State Penitentiary in Canon City, Colorado, are fronted by tracks of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. The store-room has a hipped gable roof, another structure has a stepped pediment and a bull's eye window. A wooden ramp for loading lime into freight cars is built at the stone wall. Power lines cross the foreground, and rocky crags are in the background.
