Charles & designed by architect Leonard Cutshaw, razed in 1939 for a parking lot, foreground center; two former Victorian residences remodeled into business storefronts on corner of 14th & Curtis adjacent to Charles building; American Telegraph & Telephone building with sign painted on side of building (also Colorado Telephone Company, later became Mountain Bell); City Auditorium, Loop Hotel (1431 Curtis) with sign painted on building, City Jail across Cherry Creek prior to construction of Speer Boulevard; Farmers' Market (flat roof sheds where produce was sold) along Cherry Creek, to right of City Jail; numerous industrial smokestacks & coal- burning buildings adding substantial haze to cityscape view; industrial complex near West 12th Avenue & Quivas, background upper right; Burnham Shop complex of Denver & Rio Grande Western, middle background; distant view of Loretto Heights College on horizon; early automobiles, horse-drawn delivery wagons & carriages parked on street; foundation under construction for building at 15th & Curtis; bridges crossing Cherry Creek; Sunken Gardens, background left.
