Summary	Head and shoulders portrait of Apiatan, a Native American Kiowa. He wears a hair pipe breastplate, a fringed shirt, and his hair is bound by strips of fur.

Notes	Formerly F46726.; Hand written on back of photoprint: "Reported to be not as labeled but an image of a Kiowa missionary."; Incorrect identification hand written on front of original: "Chief Young Man Afraid of His Horses, Leading Chief of all the Sioux. Taken at the Pine Ridge Agcy S. D. Copy Righted N. W. Photo, Chadron, Neb." Intentionally attributing the wrong names and places of objects in photographs, as in this case, was a common practice around the turn of the century and was used solely in the interest of increasing sales.; Title supplied.; R7100316486
