Pioneer Leadville residents pose in front of their early homes in 1879, Colorado. The man and woman in the center, dressed in their finest, stand with their baby girl on a wood chair. Two men and another woman stand next to them, with a nursing burro and its mother. A man in a suit and hat stands to the right of the group with a loaded pack mule. Homes consist of a wall tent and log cabin with saddle joints and split timber roof. A wooden chair and table can be seen through an open cabin door; an ax and three pick axes lean on the corner of the cabin. Cut pieces of timber are in the foreground and false front businesses are in the background.
