Companies
were
important
adjuncts
in the
social
life
of the
town
.
Georgetown
had
seven
in its
heyday
. The
members
held
regular
meetings
,
gave
dances
and
other
social
affairs
for their
families
, and
engaged
in
hearty
and
vigorous
competition
. The
Georgetown
Public
Library
today
proudly
displays
many
of the
trophies
won
by her
fire
companies
. The
tower
was
useful
not
only
in
housing
a
bell
but in
providing
heights
from
which
the
hoses
were
hung
to
dry
(inside
the
tower)
after
being
used.
