Interior view of a coffered ceiling in the Columbian Hotel, in Trinidad, Colorado. Probably pressed tin, the ceiling has a beveled square pattern with grooves and inset ridges. Two steps of coving follow, each being a variation of a flourish pattern; the upper one featuring torches, beading and laurel sprigs; the lower one a border of fleur-de-lis enclosing simpler, squared flourishes. The steps are divided by darker colored (perhaps gold leaf) ribs in a wreath pattern.
