Studio portrait of the Salvation Army String Band in Silverton, Colorado. Eleven young ladies and one little girl with instruments are in front of a painted backdrop of an open, hexagonally parqueted door and window. They are in matching uniforms of dark dresses with wide, circular collars. Their hairstyles are also uniform, swept back and up, exposing foreheads and ears; some have curls and crimping. The five ladies standing in back hold guitars; five who are seated hold mandolins and one has a violin; the girl front and center has a drum and sticks; one mandolin player is a Black girl. All hold their instruments as if playing them.
