Accession ID: E.2007; History Colorado.; Curatorial note supplied by History Colorado: "Lakota Sioux or Arapaho lattice cradle. Cradle is buckskin, completely embroidered in lazy stitch, with the exception of back panel, which is canvas. Attached to lattice with buckskin thong. Wood used in lattice is stained, with pointed ends and brass tack design (cross). Bottom of cradle is dark brown velveteen. Cradle laces up the front with thong. Beadwork: Lazy stitch, white ground with geometric designs in in[sic] black, dark red, white, and dark green. Lower border of beadwork has continuous row of inverted black triangles with noses touching horizontal black line. At center side a vertical stripe of red beads runs up and meets the first of two geometric designs repeated on the cradle.; Object ID: E.2007.9; Scanned image from loaned transparency including Object ID.; The first design has a square, outlined in red, with a green central ground. There is a white cross in the middle of this green ground, with a red rectangle at its center, and two small black squares on each of its arms. To the right and left of this large square extend six red lines (Horizontal) that terminate in inverted arrows, which are outlined in green with red centers. Above this square extends the vertical red stripe described above, which connects the first square/cross/arrow design with the second design described below. The second design has a central green diamond with stepped edges, surrounded by a stepped/separated row of black rectangles.; Title supplied.; To either side of this central green diamond are green triangles (on their side) surrounded by the same stripped black rectangles, from the topmost black rectangle, the vertical red stripe continues upward to the next square/cross/arrow design. There are a total of four square/cross/arrow designs and three stepped diamond designs. The top flap ectending[sic] from the upper back of the cradle is also completely beaded in lazy stitch, white ground, with stripes in red, green and black. The frontal edge of the cradle (by lacing and hood) is also beaded in a continuous loop of lazy stitch-extending from front to underside.
