View of Union Square and the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, California. The park has trees, palm trees, yucca plants, a Joshua tree and bushes. Men, women and boys lounge on the grass, on park benches and near the Dewey Monument, a 79 foot Corinthian column surmounted with an 18 foot pedestal with a bronze statue of Victory. The woman holds a wreath in one hand and a trident in the other. The thirteen story, sandstone clad, steel frame St. Francis Hotel has two wings and a courtyard. The entrance, located between the wings, consists of a colonnade topped with a balustrade. The building has square and arched window surrounds with keystones, an ornate parapet, a cornice with a modillion course and a course of dentils. The structure has quoins and balconets supported by modillions, the top windows are separated by cartouches and the surrounds are bas relief swags. Each wing is topped with a flagpole. A two-story, neoclassical building beside the hotel has an aedicule over the entrance that serves as a balcony. The windows have pediment topped surrounds on the second floor and voussoir arch surrounds on the first. The covered entrance is supported by ionic columns. The cornice on the building has decorative coursing. Shows businesses on Geary Street.
