View of the West Portal of the Continental Divide Tunnel (Alva Adams Tunnel), a part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, during construction on the east end of Grand Lake in Grand County, Colorado. The work was undertaken by the United States Bureau of Reclamation in order to carry water from Grand Lake to Estes Park . Lettering on the entrance to the tunnel reads: "West Portal, Continental Divide Tunnel, Colo.-Big Thompson Project, U.S.B.R., Safety First." Mine railroad tracks enter the tunnel, an electric substation is above the tunnel and a wooden building with an American flag is in the distance.
