Content derived from inventory prepared by Dana EchoHawk.; From inventory: "Left to right: Eloy Cruz and his brother-in-law Leandro Vigil at the entrance of the Valdez (Frederick) Mine in Southern Colorado. The mine began in 1907 and closed in 1961. Both men are wearing a battery operated lantern that mounts to the plate on their cap. The have hard-toed shoes. Eloy has a brass tag stamped with an identifying number visible at his waist. The miner placed a tag on each car he loaded for credit. The tag was also used to identify him in the event of an accident."
