The two story adobe house next to El Heraldo belongs to José Ramos Valdéz, (8th from left), a school teacher, translator, poet and editor/publisher of El Heraldo del Valle. José Candelario de la Luz Valdéz, shown 5th from the left, was an owner of a general mercantile store, Costilla County Treasurer, Justice of the Peace and County Sheriff, he stands next to a child, Ruben Valdéz, Jr. An African American man in a suit and tie poses near three Hispanic American musicians, one plays a clarinet, one a violin and the third a guitar. |
