View of the town sign at Gothic, Colo. The sign reads: "Gothic, site of The Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, founded 1928." The town was established in the 1870s with the discovery of silver ore in the area, but was virtually abandoned by 1896. In 1928, the entire site was purchased by Dr. John Johnson to establish the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory.
