Burnside reportedly welded a foot-long screwdriver. He then caught and beat 64 year old grape striker Jesus Valderrama. In this controversial incident, Valderrama was treated at the scene and taken to jail. Co-workers of Burnside contacted the UFW office to apologize for his behavior, but he was never charged.
