Planning Committee for Golda Meir House Museum
Minutes of Wednesday, February 4th, 1998
11:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
Golda Meir Conference Room
Present: Rosemary Fetter, Director of Auraria Communication
Norm Provizer, Chair MSCD Pol. Sci./Director of Golda Meir
Julie Hughes, Director of Executive Programs
Pam Laird, CU-Denver Public History Professor
I. Museum Hours and Staff
Norm announced that he would like to have the museum be open daily from
10 am - 2pm in March, as it is National Women's History Month. He though it may
be a good idea to utilize student hourly help for budgetary reasons, assuming they
were trained by Esther or were equipped with some form of tour script. Pam believed
some of her students may be interested, while Julie and Rosemary thought Dean may
be willing to hire a student hourly as well.
II. Upcoming Events
Rosemary discussed the upcoming Arts HVAC construction and its impact on
the museum. The group agreed the construction site should be moved so as not to
deter tourists. Rosemary said she would discuss the issue with Dean and the
appropriate individuals.
Also, Rosemary informed the committee that a couple of articles on the Golda
Meir House Museum would be released soon on the national level. The two
magazines were Destinations and United Airlines Flight Magazine. All agreed the
added publicity should increase the number of visitors to the house, probably toward
the summer months.
Fihally, Norm stated that an exhibit would be added to the downstairs area in
the coming weeks in celebration of Women's History Month. The exhibit will be
entitled, "Women of the World."
III. Museum/House Enhancement
Pam Laird joined the group and added several intuitive ideas to better the
Golda Meir House Museum. First, the group discussed the possibility of producing a
museum brochure in addition to the already produced Golda Meir House
publication. Pam believed that her students could possibly aid in the content to be
placed in the brochure.
