MINUTES OF CHUN BOARD MEETING
Michael Henry called the meeting to order at approximately 7:40
p.m. August 22, 1974. Patty Jackson gave the treasurer's report of
$374.07. Rhonda Knop has told Michael that the mailing list for the
URBAN DWELLER is 309 people. Michael nominated Maggie Sperling to be
a member of the board since two members have left the Capitol Hill area.
Jim Krend/ . moved for this acceptance and it was unanimously approved.
Dean ptstitf^ gave a talk on the proposed park on the South Platte
river which is to be brought up at the city council meeting on August
26, 1974. The question of the Park's size and where the main line of
the railroad is to go are the main question concerning PARC. The question
that is to be present to the Denver City Council on Monday evening is
whether the city is to purchase the Jorgensen PainTCompany as a start
for the Park. Mr. f^ntfe. asked CHUN for an agreement to the position
paper (see Appendix A) and for a representative to go to City Council
and to state CHUN's positiion. Bill Pace made a motion for us to approve
this position paper and for ' to :, a a representative at City
Council on August 26, 1974. The motion was voted on an approved unanimously.
Tom Vandergri£~£spoke to the meeting on voting against the stadium
bond issue. He brought up the issues to use the money instead of for the
stadium for sewers, more automobile for the Police Department, more
money for the firemen, more money for hospitals, etc. He wanted CHUN
to endorse SPORTS which is Sane Priorities on Responsible Tax Spending.
Simon Benefield , spoke for the new bond issue. Mr. Benefield
works for the Denver Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Pat Mj?L<ga*it} _.,;-. talked on the status of the Trees in Capitol
Hill. Sodium Vapor can make a tree grow a bit longer in the fall which
could cause the tree to die if there is an early freeze. She also
spoke on the certificate method. Eddie Haynes made a motion for CHUN
to support 7^£^y-/^/»^JU^y'^w^^^The motion carried unanimously.
Four way stop signs - The traffic department said they were going
to put a stop sign at 12th and Humboldt.
Bill Pace and Bernie Jones are going to represent CHUN
at the Capitol Hill Committee to Coordinate Community Services meeting
which is to be held September 6 to the 8th at the Geneva Glen Outpost
Cabin on Turkey Creek Canyon Road.
The first week in October is for the Forum on Political Candidates
Mary Snyder spoke on the problem at Stevens. Eighteen children
are having to walk across five major traffic arteries. Bill Pace made
a motion for Michael Henry to call the Denver Public School and ask
that the principal let the 18 children stay at the school that they are
presently attending.
Dick Alligood gave a talk on the Storefront. At the current time
the storefront is housing the Capitol Hill's Community Center and the
Welfare Department and Gilpin House. One Police Officer and four Metro
