City Churches Plan for
Low Rent Housing
For the Aged
Last Friday I attended a meeting at which a plan was presented
by professors Gene Scrivin and
Byron Johnson of Denver University. According to them, it is possible for a group of the city's
churches to underwrite an F. H. A.
Loan to build a two to three hundred housing unit for the aged, in
which a one bedroom apartment
could be rented for as little as
forty-five dollars a month with all
utilities paid. This means that
even pensioners could afford first
class living quarters.
This plan is the result of months
of study and research on the part
of the two professors at the request of the First Congregational
Church which was concerned
about housing for some of it's
aged members. Finding that the
job was too big for one church
alone, it is now being presented
to other churches in the city in
hopes that their combined efforts
can handle a project of this size.
There are still lots of details to
be worked out but the facts and
figures collected show that the
plan can be worked. Let's pray
that it is put into operation soon.
