House Tour Set For Swallow Hill;
Restored Homes Will Be Featured
The Swallow Hill District will be
featured in this year's house tour, to be
held on Sunday, September 28, from noon
to 5 pm. With a theme of "Restorations in
Swallow Hill", the tour will highlight a
diversity of restorations: family homes,
condominiums and offices. A partial listing of this year's tour includes:
The Bailey Mansion - 16th and Ogden - Also
known as the Lang Mansion, it was built in
1893 and portrays graceful curves with
rounded outside corners, a wrap-around
varanda and a three story turret. Major
redecoration has not been done in many
years, but beneath the* faded appearance
lurks beautiful leaded glass, intricately
carved woodwork, and well proportioned
rooms.
The John F. Flower Mansion - 1618 Ogden -
This home was built in 1892 and features
a heavily decorated, conical-roofed corner
tower. The red brick and sandstone structure has been renovated and decorated
appropriately for its era.
