1975 CAPITOL HILL PEOPLE'S FAIR
MAY 10
9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m.
MOREY JR. HIGH SCHOOL
13th & CLARKSON
The People's Fair is probably
the most exciting event of the
Spring. With its increase.in
size and popularity, it now
offers one of the most significant forums of ideas and
experiences for this community. It is an opportunity
for the people of Capitol Hill
to celebrate, to see new ideas
and meet neighbors after a
winter of hibernation.
Capitol Hill is entering into
a new, exciting and largely
undefined period of growth and
development. Many of the old
definitions of what cities are
and how people live are being
turned over. Since the People's Fair is the most public
and tangible example of a new
and exciting spirit evolving
here, we must seek out our
most talented and creative
resources in creating a community experience at the Fair.
«r
The idea for this year's Fair
is Capitol Hill Alive: We'
want to emphasize the joy, the
vitality, the excitement of
living in this richly historic
neighborhood. Sure, Capitol
Hill faces problems, and there
is much work to be done, but
let us not lose sight of why
we choose to live here—because it is a great place.
What does it take to put on a
People's Fair that approaches
the potential of the vision
we have for it?
First, it takes lots of people
of all ages and backgrounds
coming together to plan and
participate. Just a few community activists working on
the Fair is not enough—we
need scores of residents as
well as merchants, professional service agencies,
churches, and youth groups all
working together to make the
Fair really come alive.
Secondly, the Fair can become
a focal point for neighborhood
awareness—a catalyst for
bringing people together
before the Fair as well as
during it. For example: get
your neighbors together to
plan a block party the v/eek
before the Fair. Talk about
what you can do together to
make Capitol Hill a more joy
ful place to live.
Another idea: get a group of
neighbors together to plan a
skit, or a musical group and
perform from the show wagon
during the Fair.
Thirdly, join the parade.
Yes, a parade! This year,
there will be a people's
parade that will leave the
Fair Grounds to wind through
the neighborhood. This parade
is for participating in, not
for watching. You can build a
float, come in a costume, or
just come as you are. ^
Other ideas for the Fair v>^
include a bike race on Saturday afternoon, and a square
dance Saturday night. We will
also be inviting candidates
for the upcoming election.

CHUN FORUM - APRIL 22
On April 22, CHUN will sponsor
"An Election Inquiry for the
10th Councilmanic District1'.
To date there are 8 announced
candidates for this office.
This makes a Forum for area
residents very important.
This will be held at St. Barnabus
Church beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Come prepared to ask these
candidates questions about
our neighborhood concerns
and how they would dsal with
them as city council members.
Mark April 22 on your calendar
now and plan to bring your
neighbors.
