UPCOMING FORUM ON ANNEXATION
CHUN will sponsor a public forum at 7;30 pm on Thursday December 13 in Dag-
well Hall of St. John's Cathedral, on the north side of 13th Avenue between
Washington and Clarkson. The topic will be the pros and cons of annexation by
Denver of outlying areas, and what effects, if any, annexation will have on
inner-city neighborhoods like Capitol Hill. Councilman Robert Koch of Capitol
Hill has already accepted an invitation to participate, and it is hoped that
Mayor McNichols, Governor Vanderhoof (who, with his wife, recently joined
CHUN) Capitol Hill State Representative Carol Tempest, and a number of suburban commissioners and legislators will attend. This will probably be the
hottest issue in the legislature convening in January. Please come and learn
about the problem, and also meet our elected officials.

CAPITOL HILL NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN APPROVED
On November 21, the Denver Planning Board unanimously approved the lF-page "
Capitol Hill Neighborhood Plan drafted by Planning Office staffer Maggie
Sperling after lengthy consultation over the summer with many neighborhood
residents who were, for the most part, CHUN committee workers. The plan will
now go before the Mayor and City Council for their adoption.(The "Capitol
Hill" neighborhood, by Planning Office definition, is between Colfax, Broadway,
7th Avenue and Downing.) Maggie, also in cooperation with citizens, has also
drafted a neighborhood plan for the "Cheesman Park" neighborhood (from Downing
to York between Colfax and 7th, iwhich is being presented to the Planning Board
on November 28. Also in the works is a plan for the "Cherry Creek" area.

RTD MEETING - DECEMBER 3
On Monday December 3 at 7;30 pm in Horticultural Hall of the Denver Botanic
Gardens, 1005 York, the Regional Transportation District will hold a public
forum for the entire city and county of Denver. Citizens will have the opportunity to comment on plans for both implementing the "early-action" bus program and corridors for the personal rapid transit system. Because the meeting
will be held in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and because of CHUN!s deep concern with transportation problems, it is hoped that a large number of CHUN
members will attend and voice their ideas.

CHUN PLAN TO TRANSPORT SENIOR CITIZENS DURING GROCERY STRIKE
A number of CHUN members volunteered to devote time during the recent grocery
strike to transporting senior citizens and handicapped persons to independent,
non-struck stores. The idea was conceived by the Secretary of CHUN, Cathy
Krendl at the beginning of the strike. CHUN President, Mike Henry, then enlisted the enthusiastic cooperation of Officer Dick Alligood of the Capitol
Hill Police Storefront at 1031 East Colfax, and press releases were sent
announcing the joint endeavor. The idea was that persons in need of transportation to grocery stores on Saturdays and Wednesdays for the duration of the
strike would call the Storefront, from which CHUN volunteers or police workers
would be dispatched to drive the citizens from their homes to the grocery
store and back. The response by CHUN members and the police was very heartening, but the fact that a strike settlement was expected Sunday led to an extremely low number of calls for transportation on the first and only Saturday.
