June 12, 1980
The meeting was called to order by President Marcia Hughes at 8:00 following a
potluck dinner. Board members present were Christiana Citron-Moore, Dene Clark,
Elizabeth Crawford, Pam Crouch, Elizabeth Dobrovolny, Scott Hardy, Mike Henry,
Jim and Sharon Hill, John Hitch, Sarah Hite, Marcia Hughes, D.J. Inman, Bernie
Jones, Mark Korman, Larry Levi, Jan Moore-Kirkland, Kathleen Reilly, Joyce Thorn,
Sandy Weston and Martin Pato. Others attending were Barb Martens, Mark Fromm,
Loraine Higbie, Cathy Donohue, Jennifer Macy, Kirsten Hattman, Bill Pace.
Letters from the Gilliam Youth Center & Atlantis, two recipients of last year's
People's Fair Grants, were circulated.  Also circulated was a letter from Safeway
stating their intent to keep open their store at Colfax and Pearl.
REVIEW OF CHUN
Sarah Hite moved that Sharon and Jim Hill be elected as Delegates at large to
share one place on the Board.  The motion was seconded and passed. Marcia reviewed the contents of the notebooks which were given to each board member.  Bernie
Jones gave a brief resume of CHUN's 10 year history.
NEIGHBORHOOD ASSEMBLIES. It was noted that the 10 areas were started in 1978.
Each is represented on the Board according to its population.  (Neighborhood 4 has
4 representatives, each of the others has two.)  CHUN subsidizes expenses incurred
by the assemblies.  Neighborhood 1 is working with OMNI (Organization of Midtown
Neighborhood Improvement ) on housing issues and is also concerned with trash.
Neighborhood 2 has a liason with the North Capitol Hill Group and Midtown Hospitals.
Neighborhood 4 (Unsinkable Neighbors) is involved with the mini park at 10th &
Pennsylvania, and issues relating to the three bars at 13th and Pearl.  Neighborhood 5 is working with Peter Weed's master plan of neighborhood beautification,
starting with 9th and Corona, and has been working for several months on other tree
projects.  Neighborhood 6 is working on beautification from Vine to Race on 13th.
There is a Neighborhood 8 picnic planned.
MEMBERSHIP. Janet Moore-Kirkland asked each neighborhood representative to make
follo^up telephone calls to CHUN members who have^renewed. The deadline is June
26. Anyone who has not renewed by July 1 will be removed from the CHUN mailing
list.
COMMITTEE STRUCTURE OF CHUN.  Each standing committee and its purpose is in the.
notebook.  Sandy Weston noted that each is vital and needs more support and involvement of CHUN members.
